Why XXXX University: I am attracted to the solid reputation of your university and the nearby resources that will enable me to focus on my studies and excel in your program. I also appreciate your Nursing Department’s vision of our profession as both an art and a science, involving liberal studies and scientific preparation. I appreciate XXXX’s focus on cultivating and enjoying a culturally diverse world. I look forward to contributing to the diversity of your program as an Armenian-American woman and a native speaker of Russian and Armenian.
Steps leading to Nursing: I see my choice of nursing as part of my immigration experience to America. Coming to America from my native Armenia at the age of 16 represented a great challenge, and I focused on nursing early on as a goal and a way to give something back to my new country. Now 25, perhaps what pleases me most is how I have come to think of myself as a global citizen.
I have been heavily engaged in the medical field since I was 17. Within a few months of my arrival to the USA, I volunteered in a hospital and began working in a medical office within a few years. I continue to work as an office assistant for several different doctors. I recently graduated with my Bachelor's Degree in Public Health at XXXX University in May 2014. I am currently fulfilling an internship as a Nursing Assistant at XXXX Medical Center and working as well as working in a medical office as an office manager and biller. I see everything that I have accomplished so far professionally as preparation for entering your especially distinguished BSN Program at XXXX University so that I will have a solid platform on which to excel as a student in nursing.
What I plan to do with my BSN: While my childhood dream was to be a doctor, I believe the role of a nurse to be my destiny as an adult. I have grown to love my dream of becoming a highly accomplished nursing professional because I long to be a very hands-on caregiver and to have the opportunity to get to know my patients in-depth to treat and holistically cure them. After completing your distinguished BSN program, I hope to continue my studies, earn a Master’s Degree, and become a nurse practitioner.
My expectations of nursing: 10 years from now, I see myself as a highly competent nurse practitioner giving my all to my patients. I am learning more and more about nursing and find myself increasingly excited, in particular, about the areas of gynecology, obstetrics, and everything having to do with reproductive health. Perhaps I am working towards fulfilling a calling as both a nurse and a mother since I will be getting married this December, and I look forward to becoming a mother at some point. For me, medicine is global, and I hope to find expression for the celebration of diversity in nursing and find both my Russian and Armenian useful as I continue to work in large hospitals with vast patient populations speaking most of the world’s major languages.
I thank you for considering my application to your program.
