Since first volunteering at a nursing home as an adolescent, I have been motivated to care for needy individuals. As soon as I became a nurse, I realized that nursing is not a viable choice unless one is passionate about the field. I have thoroughly enjoyed being part of the interdisciplinary team throughout my years in the hospital and care management settings. I have found a lasting and genuine passion for caring for patients and their families. I hold a master’s degree in nursing, and I now want to broaden my clinical knowledge and expand my role as a clinician by earning the DNP and becoming an Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner.

During my capstone clinical practicum experience for my Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) Degree, I attended and participated in the clinical lab with the nurse practitioner students. It was during this time that I found myself becoming more interested in the nurse practitioner role and envisioning my contribution to the primary care setting to include helping to promote healthy lifestyle choices and manage chronic illnesses through careful and thorough assessments, optimal medication management, and clear, concise patient and family education.

My academic objectives include entry into advanced practice nursing as an Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner and acquiring a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree. My career goal is to pursue employment in an office setting providing holistic and cost-effective care for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients in my medically underserved community of ____ County, WV. I will be able to augment the health and wellness of my community through cost-effective primary care and by preventing regular hospital admissions through the reduction of unnecessary health resource utilization, making my patients aware of available community health resources, and optimizing health treatments. Additionally, with a terminal degree in evidence-based nursing practice, I will continue independent research while I practice and serve as a mentor to other nurses and healthcare professionals.

I am qualified for the Post-Graduate Certificate: Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Practitioner program and the Doctor of Nursing Practice degree program. I have over six years of acute bedside nursing experience in intensive and medical-surgical care settings. I earned my CCRN (specialty certification for critical care nurses) and have obtained my Master of Science degree in Nursing with a final GPA of 3.94. Additionally, I have over four years of utilization management experience, where I have gained extensive expertise in maximizing both inpatient and outpatient resources to prevent hospital readmissions. I am skilled in quickly recognizing, reevaluating, and revising a patient’s care plan to ensure optimal outcomes. My background has equipped me with a comprehensive understanding of patient needs and the ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams to provide high-quality care.
