Aspiring Nurse Educator: A Cartoon Representation of Purpose and Passion in the MSN Journey

I am a 32-year-old African American woman from California aspiring to become an exceptional nursing administrator. I am serious, dedicated, and compassionate, with a passion for helping others. My most significant contribution to society could be educating pregnant women and their families about the delivery process, managing staff, and achieving departmental goals while advocating for the staff. I aspire to become the Director of Nursing for a major hospital or corporation.

I grew up in Berkeley and earned an associate degree in nursing from ____ College in Oakland, CA. I am currently pursuing my Bachelor of Science in the ADN-to-BSN Program at ____ State University and expect to graduate in 2012. I hope to join the esteemed master's Administration Program at California State University ____ due to its convenient location and excellent reputation. I am particularly interested in researching teenage pregnancy prevention in high-incidence populations. As a Black woman deeply committed to serving the Black community and helping minority groups tackle their most pressing challenges, I aim to work as a nurse educator, guiding vulnerable African American and other minority girls on avoiding teenage pregnancies. I also want to support those already pregnant by informing them of their options, enabling informed decision-making, and assisting those who choose to carry their pregnancies to term in doing so healthily and preparing for motherhood. As a nurse educator, I look forward to teaching pregnant women and their families about the delivery process and how to best prepare for this complex challenge.

My long-term goal is to become one of the directors of a nursing training program focused on assisting women and teenage girls from underprivileged backgrounds.

My strong motivation and determination to succeed have equipped me well to excel in your program. As a Registered Nurse with surgical floor experience, I am adept at working under pressure in stressful situations. My professional experience has prepared me for my chosen specialization in maternity, having spent nearly three years as an RN in Labor and Delivery. I am a mature woman and a single parent to my 12-year-old son, Hadari, who is the light of my life and now old enough to entertain himself while I study for my master's courses. I aim to provide a comfortable life for my son and guide him toward higher education. As the first in my family to attend and graduate from college, I am eager to use my knowledge to help others succeed, particularly nurses from diverse ethnic backgrounds. I want to teach future nurses in a way that is easy to understand and makes them feel comfortable.

Thank you for considering my application to your program.
