Nurse Anesthesia Personal Statement
East European CRNA School Applicant

For several reasons, XXXX University is my first choice to earn a DNP in Nurse Anesthesia. The location is convenient for my family, and I also very much appreciate the rigors of your program, along with the vast breadth and scope of the curriculum. Now a highly skilled and experienced critical care nurse in MICU/CCU, I seek admission to study for the DNP to devote the balance of my professional life to research and professional practice. At some point in my career, I hope to have the privilege of helping to teach the CRNAs of tomorrow and sharing some of the many valuable things I have learned over the years. I am incredibly passionate about becoming a CRNA, highly dedicated, and emotionally intelligent. My colleagues often comment favorably on my communication/negotiation skills. I never tire of searching for novel, creative ways to resolve issues through flexibility and innovation. Ready and prepared for many sacrifices, I place the bar high on my career since I seek to become recognized as a mentor.

I look forward to becoming a highly active member of the AANA because I see the professional association as central to advancement. I hope to become recognized as an expert in pain control, especially childbirth related. Now with two young children of my own, I am at the optimal time in my life with that perfect combination of maturity, wisdom, and drive to excel as a graduate student in your competitive Nurse Anesthesia Program at XXXX University. My central professional dream is to focus my energies for decades to come – in terms of both research and practice - as a CRNA helping women, in particular, during some of their most vulnerable moments in life, providing them with an epidural if necessary, watching over them, making sure they fully understand what is required to achieve an optimal outcome. I look forward to many decades as a stellar CRNA who often simultaneously serves as a birthing coach. The maternity ward will be the center of my world.

As the daughter of first-generation immigrants to America, both from Croatia, I grew up with splendid examples of courage, perseverance, and determination to accomplish a set objective. My parents instilled in me the values of hard work, family, and education, which have served me exceptionally well since I was hired by the XXXX Hospital Medical Center on April 6th, 2015.

Absorbing everything as quickly as possible during my 3-month orientation, I could not be happier or feel more at home as an ICU nurse with many opportunities to practice my critical thinking skills daily. I find satisfaction in serving as an advocate for my patients and their family members. I have learned to anticipate a crisis before it occurs and consider my role on the ICU team especially vital in prevention. I have perfected my Vasopressors, titration, and weaning process skills and most enjoy participating in discussions with residents, fellows, social workers, dieticians, and my nurse co-workers. I participate in the weaning process of patients on controlled mechanical ventilation to assisted ventilation and inverted ratio APRV mode, which requires more advanced knowledge and understanding of ABG interpretation. I recently filled in as a charge nurse, orchestrated staff roles, and coordinated with other departments. I crave the autonomy and responsibility of the CRNA role, and I am incredibly excited by the challenge of that sixth sense that allows the best of us to immediately sense when something's not right based on a heart tone or a monitor. I am detail-oriented and highly personable. I am forever in awe of our task of getting to know patients in only a few minutes and asking them to entrust you with their lives.

Thank you for considering my application to Nurse Anesthesia at XXXX.
